MINNIE is an international charter airline that offers scheduled and charter flights, based in Öskuflói, Aska. As demand for all-inclusive holidays continued to grow, an Askan businessman noticed the business potential and came up with the idea of creating a leisure airline to fly tourists into Aska. With connections and the help of a popular travel agency in Aska, Öskuflói Travels, MINNIE was planned for its inaugural in 2007, based at Öskuflói Intl Airport. Originally, the airline was to be named ‘Öskuflói Air’, however, the name was thought to be long and unattractive for branding. A new name was chosen shortly afterwards, ‘MINNIE’. The name MINNIE is derived from the word “Memories” in the Askan language, and the now-CEO businessman said that one of the airline’s goals was to “bring new memories to the people visiting Aska”.
The airline started with a few 757-300s flying exclusively for Öskuflói Travels-owned travel agencies, and passenger numbers soon grew exponentially, proving the airline successful only 3 years after starting operations. As new aircraft were introduced, the airline’s network expanded further, reaching as far as Oconia and Alavega. The airline is the busiest during the summer season, with tourists wanting to get away from the hot sun and stay in cool temperatures. However, the airline is noted to offer basic services compared to other airlines, but some customers say the cheaper fares and the non-stop friendly staff make up for it. In 2015, the airline had undergone a major rebrand, with a more fun and playful appearance added to attract tourists, specifically families, as they made up the majority of the demand for all-inclusive holidays.
Currently, the airline operates 3 different types of Boeing aircraft. They continue to operate their 757-300s, with 737-800s and their recent addition to the fleet: the 767-300ER. They introduced the aircraft to their fleet in 2015 with their new livery and have been a workhorse for high-demand international flights since.
